Club’s history
The Lyceum International Lisbon Club was founded in February 2002 and became a member of the International Association of Lyceum Clubs (IALC) on this date.
Previously there had been, in Lisbon, another club, called Clube Franco-Portugais, founded by a group of Portuguese and French ladies. This club, however, had a short life due to its lack of identity since, to become a member of the IALC, it would have to be representative of a city and not of two countries.
As a result of the great determination shown by a group of Portuguese ladies who had belonged to the Clube Franco-Portugais, under the direction of Sabine Larger, member of the Troyes Club, at the time living in Lisbon, the idea of founding a Club in Lisbon was realized in 2002.
The new Club adopted statutes similar to those of the Troyes Club, making the necessary adaptations, and started its activity in February 2002, with only 20 members.
The Lisbon Club had its own dynamics and added more and more cultural activities to its agenda, including guided tours of museums, conferences, debates on a variety of topics, excursions, visits to exhibitions, and social occasions such as lunches, teas and dinners.
Since 2002, at the international level, the Lisbon Club has been represented at the BCI meetings in Limoges, Stockholm, Basel, Turku and Amsterdam, as well as on the Cultural Days in Paris. In Lisbon, the Club welcomed the Limoges Club, a group of Lycéennes from the Chaux-de-Fonds Club (Switzerland) and another group from the Dijon Club (France).
In May 2009, the Lisbon Club organised the BCI Meeting and Cultural Days in Lisbon (see the Organisation of Lyceum Clubs).
