Organisation of the Lyceum Clubs

The international organisation of the Lyceum Clubs may be represented as follows. The International Association of Lyceum Clubs (IALC) is the umbrella organisation for the National Federations (whenever there are several Clubs in a country). Clubs that are unique in a country (therefore not having a Federation) are also members of IALC.

The IALC’s administrative bodies are the International Council (the supreme managing body of IALC) and the International Central Bureau (BCI), which constitutes the Association’s executive group.

The International Council meets every three years and consists of the National Federations’ delegates, presided by the BCI International President. At that meeting the new International President and two Vice-Presidents (one for the Northern hemisphere and another for the Southern hemisphere) are elected for a three-year period. The International President nominates the International Secretary and Treasurer.

International Association of Lyceum Clubs (IALC)

The International Association of Lyceum Clubs (IALC) is the formal association of National Federations and of Lyceum Clubs around the world.

The IALC is headquartered in Switzerland, at the premises of the Lyceum Club holding its archives – currently the International Lyceum Club of Zurich.

International Central Bureau (BCI)

The IALC is governed by an executive group: the International Central Bureau or BCI, which is formed by:

  • The International President
  • The International Vice-President for the Northern hemisphere
  • The International Vice-President for the Southern hemisphere
  • The International Secretary
  • The International Treasurer
  • The National Federations’ Presidents

The first five positions constitute the International Board, currently occupied by the following Lyceum members:

The BCI meets normally once a year, with the participation of the International Archivist, the Editor of the International Bulletin, the IALC webmaster and the chairman of the committee for the next year’s meeting.
