After the holiday period, on 6 October the Club held the first event planned by the new Board – a Welcome Lunch in Almeirim preceded by a guided tour of the Municipal Museum. In the afternoon, we headed to Santarém, where we visited the Passos Canavarro House Museum. The guided tour was conducted by the owner Pedro Canavarro himself, who turns it into an art history lesson. The House Museum was immortalised by Almeida Garrett in the book “Viagens na Minha Terra”, and is situated, at the origins of the Portuguese nationality, where the Paço of D. Afonso Henriques was located, with a beautiful view over the river Tejo.
In the various rooms, we can observe, besides the furniture, decorative art pieces, oriental porcelain, especially from Japan, several paintings and, in the Gallery, the collection of the French painter Mimi Fogt, composed by landscapes, portraits and nudes, who offered it to Pedro Canavarro, as well as woodcut prints by Pedro de Sousa. A very interesting visit, in a very pleasant convivial atmosphere.
