Visit to the Biester Palace

In January 2023, the Club began its activities with a New Year’s Eve concert at Gulbenkian. This was followed by a tea meeting at the CMN and, finally, a guided tour of the Biester Palace. This palace, built at the end of the 19th century and known as the “House of Witches” because of its black, sloping roofs, was built in the Serra de Sintra by the Biester couple. All the rooms were richly decorated by renowned artists of the time.

The chapel has a certain Art Nouveau flavour and the ceiling is a starry blue sky. The entire Palace is surrounded by an extensive and majestic Botanical Park, with rare and exuberant tree species and watercourses, designed by François Nogré.
