Debate on ‘The Years’ by Annie Ernaux
February began with a debate at CMN on the book ‘The Years’, by writer Annie Ernaux, followed by tea. This writer, born in 1940, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2022, becoming the first French woman to receive this distinction.
January 2024
In the New Year, January 2024, the Club began its activities by watching the Nutcracker ballet at the Coliseu dos Recreios. Afterwards, on the 17th, there was a gathering at the Clube Militar Naval, followed by tea as usual.
Christmas lunch 2023
On 15 December, the traditional Christmas lunch was held, at Casa do Alentejo, which this year celebrated its 100th anniversary.
Lactarium Museum, Odivelas Monastery and Aljube Museum

Visit to the Ermelinda Freitas House
On 11 November, the Club took a guided tour of Casa Ermelinda Freitas, in Fernando Pó, which allowed us to appreciate the evolution of the winemaking process from its beginnings, which started with 2 grape varieties in 1920, to the present day, with 29 grape varieties. Tea with Prof. Eduarda Pires
A tea party was held at the CMN with Prof. Eduarda Pires, who gave an interesting dissertation on “Painting as seen by Women”.
Opera “The Magic Flute”
In June, we watched the opera “The Magic Flute” at the Gulbenkian Grand Auditorium, a live broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. We also had the chance to see the opera “Il Trovatore” at the São Carlos Theatre.
