Trip to Matosinhos and Porto

At the end of April the Club had a 3-day trip to Matosinhos and Porto, with guided visits to the Cruise Terminal in the Port of Leixões, to the Casa de São Roque, dated from 1759 and today a centre of Contemporary Art, with special emphasis on the beautiful and rich Santa Clara Church, in Porto, all covered by gilded woodcarving from the first half of the 18th century, and recently reopened after several years of restoration.

On the last day, we made an interesting visit to the Pinhais Cannery, where the whole process is still carried out manually and with the use of most of the original equipment. We end the day with a visit to the Bom Jesus de Matosinhos Church, in the Joanine Baroque style, with an imposing main altar in gilded woodcarvings, as well as the retables of the side chapels, built in the middle of the 18th century. Finally, a visit to the Casa Museu Abel Salazar.

There were 3 days of culture and pleasant conviviality between the members present and with the integration of 4 new candidates to become members of the Lyceum Club.
